What the part-time freelance role pays and asks for
This is a freelance, part-time role. It pays from rm80/hr, subject to experience and availability. A standard class runs 1.5 hours. New students start with a 1-hour trial lesson, and you teach that trial yourself. So the first hour you spend with a student is already a paid lesson.
You choose the slots. A typical part-time tutor offers two to four evening slots a week, or a block on Saturday and Sunday. We only assign a student once a slot is agreed. Nothing appears on your calendar that you did not offer.
Who this suits
This role fits a school Chemistry teacher who wants paid teaching outside school hours. It fits a lecturer, a lab scientist or a former teacher who still knows the 0620 papers well. It fits a postgraduate who has taught IGCSE before and wants steady side income without a commute.
It does not suit someone learning 0620 for the first time. Our students sit the real exam in May/June or Oct/Nov. They need a tutor who already knows where the marks are lost.
A week in the role
Picture three slots: Tuesday and Thursday at 8pm, Saturday at 10am. Before each class you check the student's last marked answer and the topic agreed with the parent. The lesson runs live on a shared whiteboard. You teach one idea, set an exam question, mark it against the mark scheme and correct the wording on the spot.
After the lesson you note the next weak point in one or two lines. That keeps the parent informed and keeps the next lesson focused. There are no group classes, no recorded lectures and no marketing tasks. Your hours go into teaching.
How students reach you
Parents contact us on WhatsApp. We ask for the student's year, Core or Extended route, exam series, current grade and weakest paper. We match that profile to a tutor whose slots and strengths fit. You receive a short brief before the trial lesson.
This is why part-time works here. You never chase enquiries, quote prices or negotiate schedules with strangers. We handle the matching. You arrive at a lesson with a student who already knows what they need help with.
The teaching method you will use
Our lessons follow one structure across the team. Students learn the command words Cambridge uses in 0620. They learn to answer a 6-mark extended question in the order the mark scheme rewards. They solve mole calculations with the same four steps every time. They rehearse Paper 6, the alternative to practical, which carries 20% of the grade.
You keep your own explanations and examples. The structure simply means every student hears the same exam language from every tutor. That consistency is a large part of why parents trust a first lesson with someone new.
What we look for when you apply
We want proof that you teach 0620 well, not a long CV. Tell us how long you have taught IGCSE Chemistry, which levels and age groups you teach, and which papers you are strongest in. For context, our current named teachers bring K. S. Tan (15+ years), Ms Yash (10+ years), Ms Kartini (15+ years) of IGCSE Chemistry teaching.
Use the open box on the form to stand out. Mention exam marking experience, schools you have taught at, a student who moved from a C to an A, or a topic you explain better than anyone. Specifics beat adjectives.
From WhatsApp message to first lesson
The process is short and runs entirely on WhatsApp. No email, no portal, no account to create.
- Send the prefilled application message from this page.
- We reply on WhatsApp within 24 hours to arrange a short call and a sample teaching task.
- We agree your slots and your hourly rate.
- We match your first student and send you the brief.
- You teach the paid trial lesson, and regular classes follow if the fit is right.
Worried part-time means unreliable income?
It is a fair concern. Students on the IGCSE calendar tend to stay with one tutor through Year 10 and Year 11, because switching mid-course costs them marks. Once matched, a student usually keeps the same weekly slot until the exam. Your income grows as you add slots, not as you win new clients each month.
